2009 Group Centenary Year

Well 2007 was fantastic, the Scouts centenary year, 2008 was great (except for the weather interfering with our camping plans) but what is special about 2009?

Well, 2009 is the centenary of our Group and its formation and inclusion into the Scouts movement. I am sure Baden Powell would be pleased to see Scouting still going strong today!.

Our new programme is taking shape, take a look. Also, something new, a video clip! See both, turn to the NEWS & EVENTS page now!

Lydney & Aylburton

The town of Lydney is situated alongside the mighty river Severn in the county of Gloucestershire and is known as "The Gateway to the Forest of Dean". Not far down the road toward Chepstow / Wales is the village of Aylburton.

Lydney Cross

Lydney Town Cross

The town and village have very strong links dating back many years. One such link is our shared scout group, indicative of our close local ties.

The scout group comprises Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who meet mainly at the Methodist chapel in Springfield Road, Lydney. The chapel boasts a good size function room / hall with adjoining toilets, storage and kitchen facilities. Check with our leaders for times, places and dates!

Summer Scouts

In summer months, the focus moves to the outdoors where the scouts are given the use of land in the local deer park, part of the Lydney Park Estate of Lord Bledisloe.

Beavers Became Two!

Since Easter 2007 we have been running two nights / groups (colonies) for Beavers. The Lydney colony is called Forest group, the second (at Aylburton) is known as River group.

Value For Money (VFM!)

We try hard to keep costs to a minimum so where does the money go? We are running two Beaver evenings, Cubs and Scouts and this involves premises rental, equipment / props costs etc. We also pay fees for special events and use of other facilities. What do we spend the most on? Your youngsters welfare and protection, to this end a high percentage of fees goes to the Scouts association for insurance and support. All scouts personnel work free of charge with exception of incurred costs.

Behind The Scenes Support

A vast network of people are involved in making Scouting work! Some of the many people include: Scout leaders and helpers, your local Scout Group committee members, adult and family member helpers, the Scouts organisation. Scouting always needs volunteers and helpers! Thanks Everyone!

Peace of mind: Everyone involved in Scout activities (including the web site) undergo Police CRB checking.

Botany Bay, Secret Agents Camp
8-10 May 2009.

At last, proper camping in mild, sunny weather. Our group camp site experience was a winner. This year we even accomodated Beavers for one evening at the well equipped Lodge / camp site at Botany Bay (Tintern). Images on Photoblog.
